About Fenway Health

Fenway Health is a community health center that provides drug rehab services in greater Boston. Established from modest beginnings in a basement in 1971, it has become one of the most progressive healthcare centers in New England. Today, it provides drug rehab and treatment services through its Behavioral Health department.

The center got its name from the Fenway district where it was located, one of the most diverse areas of Boston. The area was particularly hard hit by HIV/AIDS and crack cocaine in the 1980s and the center was one of the few that catered to many of the most affected by these still ongoing issues.

Why is Fenway Health so special?

To the people who live in the area, the health center has become just as vital a part of the area’s identity as the much more famous Fenway Park. The area has historically been home to many working class immigrants and LGBT+ individuals, people who have long been underserved by wider society, particularly during the early and middle parts of the 20th century, when Boston was still considered to be a conservative area.

Today, while Fenway Health’s facilities are open to everyone, they continue to pay special attention to underserved LGBT+ individuals and other minorities in the area, making sure their care involves the proper contextualization that is so often important for a full recovery from substance use disorder.

Today, it is one of the largest health-related nonprofit groups in Massachusetts, and responsible for cutting-edge research and treatments in HIV/AIDS as well as related substance misuse issues, such as opioid use disorders.

Substance use disorder services at Fenway Health

Asa health center, Fenway Health primarily focuses on delivering outpatient care. The facility offers a wide selection of mainstream treatments for substance use disorders, including counseling and therapy. Relapse prevention, harm reduction, and other recovery principles are also emphasized at the facility. Supplementary treatments such as acupuncture are also available. For individuals with more immediate needs, the facility performs outpatient detox services as well.
